Teacher of the Year Nominees Announced

Five veteran FCCPS educators have been nominated to receive this year’s Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award.  The annual award is bestowed upon one teacher from each D.C. metropolitan school district.

This year’s nominees from the Falls Church City Public Schools are:

Joel Block – Mathematics Teacher, George Mason High School
Susan Johnson – Second Grade Teacher, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School
Denise O’Neil – Speech and Language Pathologist/Teacher, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School
Janet Weber – Mathematics Teacher/CIRT, George Mason High School
Nick Werkman – 7th Grade Special Education Teacher/CIRT, Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School

FCCPS Superintendent Lois Berlin surprised each nominee in their respective classrooms, today, with the announcement and a bouquet of flowers.  Students cheered as they learned their teacher was selected as a nominee for the top award.

The winner of this year’s Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award will be announced in March, and all nominees will be recognized by the school board later this spring.  The winner will be invited to attend a recognition reception at the Washington Post in April.
