Preschool Program Overview:
Mount Daniel School’s Early Childhood Program offers two types of preschool experiences.

1)  Mount Daniel's Special Education Preschool is designed to offer an integrated program for children with identified special needs. These students have completed the special education identification process and have been found eligible for special education services.  Through their IEP (Individualized Education Plan) process it has been determined that class based services are required to best meet their needs. 

2)  The Mount Daniel Family Literacy Program serves families and children who are second language learners and/or have other risk factors identified through the Virginia Preschool Initiative.  

Peer Partners:
These small, developmentally appropriate classes typically have a combined total of eight to ten openings per year for preschool peer partners, depending on the makeup of the incoming class. In both programs all children engage in typical preschool activities and daily routines that help them learn the self-help, socialization and early academic skills needed for success in elementary school.  The expectation for all families is that they will participate in evening school events, field trips, Back to School Night and other classroom activities which help us to build community.

There is a non-refundable application fee of $25.00.  Yearly tuition is charged for peer partners.  The current tuition is $4,200.00. Tuition assistance is available on a sliding scale for those who qualify.  Transportation is provided for all students.  The program reserves the right to make placements and/or changes to the peer partner program based on program needs.  Information about eligibility and expectations for peer partners is included with the application form. For all families who have submitted applications by February 15, 2012, there will be a lottery selection process to determine the screening pool based upon available slots for the upcoming school year.  Applications will be accepted beginning January 3, 2012.  There is a $25 non refundable application fee that should be submitted with your application.  The Mount Daniel office will notify parents when applications are received. 

Applications that were submitted for last year’s lottery for children who remain age eligible are on file and will be placed in this year’s lottery.  There is no need to submit another application or fee. 

Child Find:
Preschool children are screened for special education services through the Mount Daniel Child Find program. Parents who have concerns about the development of their child or would like more information about Child Find can contact the Mount Daniel Child Find office at 703-248-5650.
