Child Find is a program mandated by the Commonwealth of Virginia which serves children from birth to age 21 and their families.   School districts are directed to screen, identify and evaluate those students who might need special education services to support their learning.

A developmental screening can be provided free of charge if parents have concerns about a child's development in speech and language, fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, social-emotional or self-help skills.

Those children identified as eligible may receive special education services through Falls Church City Public Schools. Child Find is an opportunity for children with special needs to receive early intervention services. The screening is used to determine if further intervention or assessment for special education may be appropriate.  If the results of a screening suggest that services are needed, a referral to special education and a request for parental permission for evaluation is made.

Mt. Daniel holds a “Child Find Day” on the first Wednesday of each month from 1:30-3:30 pm. Children must be two years old by September 30, 2011.

Contact Child Find Coordinator Ann Gordon (gordona@fccps.org) or 703-248-5650 to discuss concerns and schedule an appointment for the next Child Find Day.
