Keeping up with the herd: Boys soccer dominates Central Woodstock

Print

pauldarmstadter_boysoccervscentral_sports

On Tuesday night, the boys soccer team beat Central Woodstock 7-0 in the Bull Run District semifinals.  They utterly dominated Central in every aspect of the game.  The Mustangs out-possessed them and out-shouted them.  The Mustangs were tight on defense, only letting the Falcons get two shots.

“We played fantastic last night,” said Kurt Ellis.  “We hardly let them get into our half and we pressured them extremely quickly and stole the ball many times.”

The boy’s next match is this Thursday at 7 p.m. against Clarke County.  It will be for the Bull Run District finals.

Tennis has always been one of Mason’s strongest sports, continually sending athletes to compete in Regional and State tournaments. The players on both the boys and girls teams have had great successes on the court posting great records. The boys team is currently 12-1 approaching the playoffs after going undefeated in the Bull Run District while the girls match with the same record, also going undefeated in the district.

“Both teams have a lot of talent. Don’t be surprised if the Mustangs end up going all the way to wrap up this year,” said senior captain of the boy’s team, Tommy Weber. Weber also pointed out that the boys team is working on a “four-peat” as they hope to claim their fourth State title in a row.

Weber is looking to break many records before graduating from Mason in June. He is approaching his 100th career win as a Mustang. With great moves on the court, Weber sets a precedent for many great Mustangs to follow, which shouldn’t be a problem, especially for the girls team

In addition to the successful boys team, the girls feature a lot of young talent and will be a force in the state for many years to come. With no seniors this year, the team is made up of underclassmen talented enough to experience success for at least the next few years.

As both teams approach the playoffs, be sure to keep an eye out for Mustangs on the court as they make their runs for the State title.
