After school, JV and Varsity usually practice together. Girls put on their equipment and are ready to play after school from 3:45 or 4 p.m. until around 6 p.m. Their practices involve running with the famous "Take A Lap," catching, passing, and drill techniques. Games are home and away, and usually multiple times a week.
On girls JV, lacrosse players this year are sophomores Casey Englander, Rosalyn Kaddache and Brittany Rorrer. Freshmen are Katelyn Upton, Michelle DeMars, Abby Perez, Rachel Dix and Hadleigh Rhodes. Eighth graders on the team are Emma Washa, Caroline Stanley, Ellen Francis, Emily Rosenburg, Kelly Ready, Abby VanBuren, Emily Bell, Kallen Shea and Julia Western.
"Lacrosse this year was so amazing. when it really came down to it, we were a team; on and off the field. I already miss it," shares Hadleigh Rhodes.
The JV girls were headed this year by Coach Laura MacFie, and assisted by Varsity Coach Courtney Gibbons. These girls have bonded throughout the season, experiencing some lows and highs as they have lost and won their games respectively. However, team spirit was always present and these girls kept their heads high no matter the outcome of the game.
"From the both of us; We are so proud of the girls and all they have accomplished. We enjoyed teaching the girls and learning from them in return. We both look forward to returning next year and we are positive the girls are just as excited, " say Coach MacFie and Coach Gibbons. Coach MacFie had more to say, especially since she is a new member of the JV lacrosse team. "As a first year coach, I truly loved coaching for George Mason. Lacrosse is such a great sport and I thought the girls did an excellent job in their regular season. As a team we had our fair share of laughs and tears but I truly look forward to next season."
After the season, team sleepovers and a dinner is to follow. The girl's lacrosse team follows a tradition of the little sister/big sister present system, where each JV girl is matched up with a varsity player and these two give each other presents before each game.
Combined, the girls Lacrosse team is proud of their accomplishments, and although the season has ended for the JV girls, the Varsity team is still holding on strong. Come support your team this Thursday, May 7th at 6:00pm for the Varsity game taking on Potomac Falls High.
