Every year spring comes and along with that comes the junior and senior Prom. This year's dance will be held in Old Town Alexandria on King Street. Just like last year, the dance will be on the Cherry Blossom yacht, which is a vessel in one of DC's oldest river boating companies.
Prom will start at 8:30 on May 16. The boat does not leave the dock until 9p.m., but the school advises everyone to be there at least fifteen minutes in advance. The boat waits for no one, so be on time. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday in the school's front lobby. Tickets are $40 each and $45 for guests who are not George Mason students. All of the money will go straight into the preparation and paying for the dance which is sponsored by the junior class.
This year the theme is "A Ship of Dreams" since the boat is decorated in a Victorian style. So for anyone who's a huge Titanic fan, this is the boat for you. Unlike last year, only desserts will be offered for food. There will be drinks and a variety of assorted mini pastries and platters from Whole Foods.
This year's music is going to be a playlist put together by senior class President Johnny Vroom and Karishma John. They are going to try their best to make a variety of music that everyone will like. If you have any suggestions, you can request a song on the 2009 George Mason Prom group on Facebook.
As far as the dance policy goes, the faculty does not want any vulgar dancing but it should be more relaxed than homecoming. Yet, nothing is guaranteed. Right now the Prom committee is expecting around 250 people at the dance so there will be a good turnout.
