Unfortunately, our new principal, Tyrone Byrd, will not be joining us this year or at all. Just last week, Mr. Byrd was offered the job to coach football for West Virginia. He is very disappointed that he will not be able to be the principal at our school and sends his apologies to everyone at Mason.
“I am truly sorry for resigning from my position as principal here. This is just a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I feel I must take advantage of it,” said Byrd. Byrd will leave for West Virginia in just a few weeks to start spring training.
Mrs. McDowell, our interim principal, is willing to step into the position as principal for as long as the interview process will take to install another permanent principal. The school board is now going to conduct yet another search for a Mustang leader.
The faculty here does not want their students to be alarmed or worried about the situation. Chances are, McDowell will finish out the year here as principal, and the school board will figure it out from there. The school board is sorry for the inconvenience, but plans to take action on the subject as soon as possible.
